Warning: Science Geek Stuff Follows

Hmmm… so what physiological results would I personally want seriously supported from a nighttime product design like Comatose™?

Well, obviously cool mood enhancement and a good night of sleep of course, but what else?

Think about it. Why would you want to be in a good mood, lose fat or build muscle only during the day? Hmmm, are 24/7 results possible?

Interesting Research: GH and GABA

If you have been awake in the last few years you have likely heard alot about GABA (Gamma-amino-beta-hydroxybutyric acid). GABA is an amino acid that is also a neurotransmitter naturally produced by our bodies or ingested as a supplement. GABA has several cool effects, some on the nervous system as well. Examples would be increased brain function and enhanced sleep leading to increased recovery. Remember not all supplemental GABA is created equal!

Not long back there were a few poorly structured studies that suggested GABA signals an increase in GH release. Interesting the number of experts that claimed this just is not possible. Hmmm, okay.

I have both personally and in conjunction with other researchers spent a great deal of time and more than a few bucks testing this debate. The question is: would this GH release result in any actual physiological value for performance enhancement?

Well, at Shenendoah University Winchester, Virginia a very well structured test protocol* was created and executed using eleven resistance-trained men (18-30 yr.) whom participated in a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, crossover study.

The new study validated that the earlier studies were correct in a profound way. What was proven is that proper GABA (Gamma-amino-beta-hydroxybutyric acid) supplementation can in fact significantly increase GH… even when awake. Research has long since confirmed that those who consistently increase GH levels and work-out make significantly greater gains in muscle growth and strength than those who experience lower GH levels.

The Shenendoah University study validated that when the subjects took GABA, they increased their natural GH levels after the workout by about 200%. Cool so far, huh? More importantly they increased GH levels at rest by about 400% compared to when they took the placebo. We all know the positive effect that GH can have upon fat loss as well. Cool so far? It is IF the GH increase isn’t simply transitory and the right unique GABA analog actually makes it through the blood brain barrier. So the goal would be to dramatically increase the half-life of the GABA analog utilized while significantly enhancing the amount that enters and clears the blood brain barrier.

More Interesting Research: GH and Cortisol

Most of us are well aware of the fact that cortisol elevation results in increased fat accumulation. Worse yet, it makes it near impossible to lose it. Muscle wasting, fat supporting cortisol is secreted as a result of stress of any kind. And the amount of cortisol circulating increases with our levels of stress and anxiety. Did you know that an increase in cortisol decreases REM sleep? No wonder why stressed-out people get fat and sleep poorly, huh?

The research lads and ladies at Sahlgrenska University Hospital, Goteborg University,Goteborg, Sweden did some research* I find totally of interest in this regard.

What researchers found in Sweden was that cortisol and GH have opposite effects upon lipolytic activity (the splitting up or decomposition of fat) in human fat tissue. Additionally cortisol causes catecholamine insensitivity while GH increases catecholamine sensitivity. Why does this matter? Catecholamine sensitivity greatly regulates the rate of fat loss or storage. Increased sensitivity means more muscle and less fat.

So, how important is stress/anxiety control paired with GH release augmentation to you now?
